11 30 AND 12 07 Bring your Sewing Machines..Beginning Quilting 2 Day Workshop with Debra…

Thurs Nov 30th  10-1 pm and Thurs Dec 7th $60 for both Days 2 Day Workshop…Beginning Quilting Complete a baby quilt top in an afternoon! Finishing techniques will be discussed and demonstrated in class Class will cover the following topics:
  • 1/4 inch seams and how to get them
  • cutting techniques for rotary cutters
  • fusible machine applique
  • stitch in the ditch quilting will be demonstrated
Materials to bring to class:
  • 5 – different 1/4 yard cuts of all cotton quilting fabric
  • 1-1/2 yard cut of fabric for applique and binding
  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • rotary cutter and cutting mat (not absolutely necessary – you can borrow mine)
  • Omnigrid quilting ruler 24 inch (not absolutely necessary – you can borrow mine)
  • cotton thread to match the color of fabric you will be using for the name on the quilt
  • straight pins
  • 1/4 yard wonder under (purchase at JoAnns)
  • Pen and paper for note taking
  • 505 spray and fix temporary fabric adhesive
Prerequisite: You must know how to turn your machine on and fill your bobbin to take this class. Machine needs to have zig zag stitch to be able to applique name. You will purchase backing and batting after this class – when you have finished your top. We will be doing this so we can discuss the different types of materials used as backing in baby quilts before you decide what to purchase for yours. Machine quilting in the ditch will be explained and demonstrated in class. Iron and ironing board will be provided. If you do not have a ruler, rotary cutter or cutting mat you can use one of mine. I don’t want you to have to spend a lot of money to try out quilting so I will let you use my equipment in this first class – but if you own some of these things already please do bring them. Time: 3 hours
